About the Court

Prior to 1916, the Court operated under the Justice of the Peace System until the General Assembly of the State of Ohio created the Municipal Court. In 1955, the Court was given countywide jurisdiction and in 1968 it's name was changed to the Franklin County Municipal Court. The Court moved from City Hall in 1979 to the current building at 375 S. High St.

Local Rules

Local Rules govern practice and procedure for cases filed in the Franklin County Municipal Court and are adopted consistent with the Ohio Constitution, Rules of Civil and Criminal Procedure, and the Rules of Superintendence. The Court accepts comments on any proposed rule changes to take into consideration prior to adoption.

Meet the Judges

The Court has fourteen (14) General Division judges and one (1) Environmental Division judge who preside over civil, criminal, and traffic cases and conduct both jury and non-jury trials. Judges are elected to a six (6) year term and each have their own bailiff and secretary.
